PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 26, 2011) – Rutgers junior high jumper Adam Bergo (Plainfield, N.J.) finished in the top-12 on the first day of competition at the NCAA East Regional on Thursday, May 26 at Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex in Bloomington, Ind.
Bergo cleared a height of 7' .25" to finish tied for ninth as the top-12 move on to the championship.
With his performance, Bergo will advance to the NCAA Championship on June 8 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. It marks the second time in his career that Bergo will compete at the national meet after qualifying in the indoor high jump as a freshman.
Senior sprinter Aaron Younger (Franklinville, N.J.) advanced to the semifinals of the 400-meter hurdle with a second-place showing in his preliminary round heat. Younger ran a time of 52.12 and will return to the track on Friday. Younger will also join senior Kevin Brown (Woodbury, N.J.), junior Steve Werner (Newtown Sq, Pa.) and freshman Corey Caidenhead (Bergenfield, N.J.) in the 4x400-meter relay on Saturday.
Senior Jeremy Pennino (Watchung, N.J.) made his fourth appearance at the NCAA East Regional, recording his second-best throw of the season in the javelin. Pennino recorded a mark of 215’ 7”, missing the final cut to advance to the NCAA Championship.
Other Scarlet Knights awaiting competition at the NCAA East Regional are junior James Plummer (South Toms River, N.J.) in the discus and on the women’s side, senior Natalie Clickett (Union City, Pa.) in the discus and junior Alex Kelly (Florham Park, N.J.) in the javelin.
