PISCATAWAY, N.J. – After completing one of the most successful seasons in program history, the Rutgers women’s tennis team ranked 15th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) end of the year East Regional rankings.
In addition to the team ranking, sophomore Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) was recognized as the 23rd-best singles player in the region.
“This ranking is the affirmation of the type of year this team put together,” said head coach Ben Bucca. “I’m pleased that both the team and Amy were recognized by the ITA.”
The team recently completed one of the best seasons in program history, compiling a 16-5 overall record and an 8-2 mark in BIG EAST play. The Scarlet Knights placed fourth at the 2009 BIG EAST Championships, winning their first two matches of the tournament before falling to No. 1 seed and eventual winner Notre Dame in the semifinals.
Zhang, an All-BIG EAST selection and RU’s Most Valuable Player, ended the year with a 16-5 mark at No. 1 singles.
