PROVIDENCE, RI - Rutgers women’s tennis head coach Marian Rosenwasser was named the BIG EAST Conference Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year, the league office announced Wednesday. The honor comes following Rosenwasser’s final match as head coach of the Scarlet Knights on Friday, April 25.
Rutgers ended its 2003 spring season 13-7, with a 9-2 mark in conference matches. In Rosenwasser’s final match, the fifth-seeded Scarlet Knights fell to fourth-seeded Virginia Tech at the BIG EAST Championships.
This was the second time the Rutgers coach has received conference coaching honors. She was the 1988 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year. During her tenure at Rutgers, Rosenwasser amassed more than 300 wins with the Scarlet Knights, finishing with an overall record of 316-214 (.596).
“It is always overwhelming to feel that your colleagues look upon you with a high regard,” said Rosenwasser. “I am very touched by it.
Rosenwasser, who announced her retirement earlier in the spring after 22 years at the helm of the Scarlet Knights, will remain in the program as an assistant coach. Ben Bucca, who served as an assistant to Rosenwasser for nine years, will take over as head coach effective July 1.
