At No. 1 singles, junior Andrea Weckstein (Holmdel, NJ) lost to BC’s Nida Waseem, 6-0, 6-3. Senior Jennifer Hellier (Annapolis, MD) fell at No. 2 to Allison Ashley of Boston College, 6-1, 6-1. The Eagles’ Morgan Landes recorded a win at No. 3 singles over senior Carissa Sommerlad (Bradley Beach, NJ), 6-2, 6-2. RU freshman Alina Balasa (East Brunswick, NJ) lost just her second match of the season at the No. 4 position, falling to Amy Molden, 6-2, 6-3. At No. 5 singles, junior Kaitlin Link (Ontario, Canada) lost, 6-2, 6-1, to Emily Hellberg. Freshman Ketevan Shmakova (Dover, NJ) came up short at the No. 6 spot, losing to Anisha Fernando, 6-3, 6-2.
Boston College registered wins in all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Waseem and Hellberg beat the Scarlet Knights’ top doubles team of Weckstein and Sommerlad at No. 1, 8-3. No. 2 doubles saw the closest match of the day, with Hellier and Shmakova coming out on the losing end, 8-6, against BC’s Emily Yeomans and Ashley. The No. 3 doubles tandem of Link and Balasa fell to 5-2 overall on the season after losing to Molden and Landes, 8-3.
The Scarlet Knights will be back in action on Saturday, traveling to Providence, RI to face Brown at noon.
