CORAL GABLES, FL – The Rutgers women’s tennis season officially came to an end as the Scarlet Knights were eliminated by Syracuse, 4-1, in the consolation round of the BIG EAST Championships. The Scarlet Knights finish their season 13-9 overall.
Syracuse took a 1-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles matches, and quickly went ahead 2-0 when Trine Lise Jiliussen was victorious at first singles. Alina Balasa (East Brunswick, NJ) put Rutgers back in contention with a straight-set win at third singles, but Syracuse clinched the match with a victory at fourth singles.
Rutgers finished sixth at the BIG EAST Championships in its inaugural season under head coach Ben Bucca. The campaign was highlighted by a five-match winning streak to finish the regular season, which included a 5-2 victory over in-state rival Seton Hall on the final day of the regular season.
