MIAMI, FL – The Rutgers women’s tennis team finished out its Spring Break trip with a dominate 7-0 win over St. Thomas University. The win improves the Scarlet Knights’ record to 8-5 overall, as RU won two of three matches in Florida.
At first doubles, Andrea Weckstein and Kaitlin Link got the Scarlet Knights started with a convincing 8-0 victory. Helen Magomedova and Lauren Edelschein followed with a 8-0 victory at second doubles, raising their doubles record to 5-0 this spring. St. Thomas did not have a third doubles team, so Rutgers won that match by default.
In singles, Keteven Shmakova won 6-1, 6-0, while Alina Balasa earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at second singles. Jill Markowitz improved her singles record to 12-1 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles, while Link and Edelschein also won by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores.
“The girls really played well,” said head coach Ben Bucca. “This is a nice way to end our trip as we prepare for the remainder of our regular season.”
The Scarlet Knights return to action this Wednesday when they host Princeton at the RU Tennis Complex.
