MIAMI, FL – Despite singles victories from Jill Markowitz and Alina Balasa, the Rutgers women’s tennis team fell to UTEP, 4-3, on the second day of its week-long trip in Miami, FL.
UTEP took all three double matches to take a 1-0 lead in the match, and then won the first two singles matches for a 3-0 edge. Victories by Alina Balasa, Markowitz, Helen Magomedova put RU ahead 3-2, but UTEP won the final two matches for the final 4-3 margin.
Previously on its trip, Rutgers defeated Broward County Community College, 5-2. Broward is one of the top-ranked community colleges in the nation. The Scarlet Knights also knocked off Lafayette, 5-0, prior to leaving for Florida.
Rutgers wraps up its Spring Break trip with a match against St. Thomas University on Wednesday, March 17.
