  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 11, 2014) – The Rutgers tennis team (6-3,1-1 AAC) welcomes Delaware (3-3, 1-1 CAA) to the East Brunswick Racquet Club on Wednesday, March 12 at 1 p.m. for the squad’s second-straight home match. The Scarlet Knights look to extend their three-game win streak dating back to Feb. 23.

RU’s most recent victory came on Friday, March 7 at home against Binghamton. Against the Bearcats, RU swept all three doubles matches and captured five of six singles matchups. The contest against Binghamton was the Scarlet Knights’ first home contest since Feb. 7 after a six-game road stretch.

Sophomore Lindsey Kayati (Monroeville, N.J.) leads RU in singles action with a 7-2 record. Last Friday against the Bearcats, Kayati cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 win against Sara Kohtz in No. 3 singles. For Kayati, it was her third singles victory in her last four outings.

In doubles action, senior co-captain Vanessa Petrini (Stamford, Conn.) holds an impressive 7-2 record, including four-straight match wins entering Wednesday’s contest. She partnered with rookie Farris Cunningham (Houston, Texas) for the first seven doubles matches of the season before producing two-straight doubles victories with Kayati.

Delaware enters the match after capturing a 6-1 victory Saturday, March 8 against Hofstra. The Blue Hens, like RU, secured the doubles point and produced five out of six victories in singles action for the win.

In singles play, Dorothy Safron has won four of her last five matches for Delaware.

Last season, the two teams met on Feb. 3 in RU’s season opener at the Atlantic Club in Manasquan, N.J. Delaware came out on top, 4-3, as the Scarlet Knights won three of the six singles matches and took one of the three doubles contests.

Rutgers received points from Petrini (No. 1 singles), then-freshman Gina Li (Hillsborough, N.J.) (No. 2 singles) and Kayati (No. 5 singles) in solo action, while Li and Kayati won the lone doubles match of the day.
