  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 6, 2014) –The Rutgers tennis team (5-3, 1-1 AAC) returns home for the first tim in six matches, as the squad welcomes Binghamton (2-5) to the East Brunswick Racket Club Friday, March 7 at 2 p.m. It will be the Scarlet Knights’ first home contest since Feb. 7.

RU enters the match after edging Cornell, 4-3, March 1 in Ithaca, N.Y. Against the Big Red, Rutgers swept the doubles point and captured three of six singles contests to pull away with the victory.

The Scarlet Knights are led in singles play by sophomore Lindsey Kayati (Monroeville, N.J.), who currently holds a 6-2 record.

In doubles play, the duo of senior co-captain Vanessa Petrini (Stamford, Conn.) and freshman Farris Cunningham (Houston, Texas) have combined for a 5-2 record in doubles action to lead RU.

Against Cornell, Petrini and Kayati defeated Alexandria D’Ascenzo and Marika Cusick, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles to mark the tandem’s first time playing together on the season.

Petrini boasts a 6-2 doubles record, partnering with Cunningham for the first seven matches before teaming up with Kayati against the Big Red. The senior has won three-straight doubles contests dating back to the Louisville match on Feb. 21, when she and Cunningham downed Cassie Pough and Elle Stokes, 8-5.

Binghamton enters the match after blanking Colgate, 7-0, on March 2. Before the win, the Bearcats lost four-straight contests. Binghamton is led in singles play by Agatha Ambrozy and Annie DiMuro, who both have five individual wins each.

DiMuro was recently named the America East Player of the Week on March 4 after going a perfect 3-0 in singles play and also notching two doubles victories over the weekend.
