PISCATAWAY, N.J. (February 20, 2014) – The Rutgers tennis team (3-2) heads to Louisville, Ky., on Friday, Feb. 21 to begin American Athletic Conference play against the Cardinals (5-2, 1-0 AAC). RU will then travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to take on the Bearcats (3-6, 0-1 AAC) on Sunday, Feb. 23.
Rutgers enters the weekend after a quick turnaround from its last time on the courts, as the squad dropped a 6-1 road decision to Princeton on Feb. 19. Freshman Farris Cunningham (Houston, Texas) led the Scarlet Knights with the lone win of the day at No. 6 singles. Cunningham defeated Sivan Krems in a 10-5 tiebreaker, after taking the first set by a score of 6-3 and dropping the second, 2-6.
Louisville enters Friday’s match on a four-match winning streak, most recently defeating Wisconsin on the road by a 5-2 mark on Feb. 14. The Cards took the doubles points and then outlasted the hosts in singles play, which featured four three-set matches. Louisville is currently ranked No. 63 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team rankings.
Cincinnati most recently swept IUPUI in Indianapolis, Ind., 7-0, on Sunday, Feb. 16. The Bearcats will welcome Bowling Green to the Western Tennis and Fitness Club on Saturday, Feb. 22 before hosting Rutgers on Sunday.
Louisville and Cincinnati have already met in conference play on Feb. 9, with the Cardinals coming out on top, 7-0.
