PHILADELPHIA (February 18, 2014) – The Rutgers tennis team will take the short trip to Princeton, N.J., to face in-state rival Princeton on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 4:30 p.m. RU looks to win its second-straight match, after taking down previously undefeated Army by a score of 6-0 on Feb. 16.
RU downed Army in West Point, N.Y. last Sunday, securing the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. Rutgers swept five of the six singles matches, with sophomore Mariam Zein’s (Sugarland, Texas) match ending in a did not finish at No. 3 singles.
The Scarlet Knights are led by sophomore Lindsey Kayati (Monroeville, N.J.), who boasts a perfect 4-0 record. Kayati, who played her first three matches at No. 5 singles, was recently bumped up to No. 4 singles against the Black Knights. Kayati would come up with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Army’s Elle Taylor.
In doubles play, the tandem of Kayati and sophomore Gina Li (Hillsborough, N.J.) have been nearly perfect, as they enter Wednesday’s match with a 3-1 mark from the No. 1 slot. The duo’s lone loss came against Penn’s team of Sol Eskenazi and Kana Danie by a score of 6-1 on Feb. 9.
Princeton enters the contest with a 4-3 record, while also having two matches cancelled due to weather. In the Tiger’s last time out, the squad participated in the three-day ECAC Championships and defeated Brown, 4-2, to finish third in the tournament on Feb. 9. Princeton is led by Alanna Wolff who owns a 14-4 singles record.
