PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 21, 2013) – Following an impressive 7-0 sweep of Army on Feb. 22, the Rutgers women’s tennis team is set to take on Marquette on Friday, March 1 at noon at the East Brunswick Racquet Club in East Brunswick, N.J. This will be the second BIG EAST contest of the season for the Scarlet Knights, as they downed Cincinnati, 4-3, Feb. 17.
RU is 4-2 on the season, led by 10th-year head coach Benjamin Bucca. The squad is led by junior Vanessa Petrini (Stamford, Conn.) and freshman Gina Li (Hillsborough, N.J.) in their No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots, both holding 5-1 records in 2013. Rutgers has won each of its last two matches.
Last season, the Scarlet Knights fell to the Golden Eagles, 5-2, on the road.
Marquette is 9-4 this season and 0-1 in conference competition, falling to league-foe DePaul, 6-1, on Feb. 15. The Golden Eagles are coming off a 5-2 loss to Iowa (Feb. 23) after picking up a close 4-3 victory over Wisconsin (Feb. 20). Marquette is led by 28th-year head coach Jody Bronson.
