PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 21, 2013) – Coming off a 4-3 win in its first BIG EAST competition of the season against Cincinnati, the Rutgers women’s tennis team travels to West Point, N.Y., to take on Army at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center Friday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m.
Led by 10th-year head coach Benjamin Bucca, the Scarlet Knights are 3-2 on the season and are led by junior Vanessa Petrini (Stamford, Conn.) in her No. 1 singles spot, as she holds a 4-1 record. Freshman Gina Li (Hillsborough, N.J.) is also 4-1, competing as the No. 2 singles player on the squad.
Last season, Rutgers downed the Black Knights, 5-2, at home on Feb. 17.
Army is 5-1 overall, coming off a 2-1 weekend with wins over Fairleigh Dickinson (Feb. 16), and St. Bonaventure (Feb. 15), while falling to Massachusetts on Feb. 15. The Black Knights and the Scarlet Knights each notched 5-2 victories over FDU this season, as Rutgers did it at home on Feb. 13.
Seventeenth-year head coach Paul Peck is at the helm of Army.
