PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 3, 2012) – After playing two non-conference matches over the weekend, Rutgers University women’s tennis will return to BIG EAST action against Connecticut on Wednesday, April 4 at the RU Tennis Complex. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m.
Rutgers (8-8, 3-3 BIG EAST) fell at No. 26 Yale on Friday, 6-1, and at home versus Denver, 5-2, on Sunday in a pair of matches against quality opponents. Senior Morgan Ivey (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) won in a match tiebreaker against the Bulldogs, while freshmen Noor Judeh (Potomac, Md.) and Lindsay Balsamo (Wall, N.J.) each took their duels versus the Pioneers. The Scarlet Knights are 3-0 in home contests against conference opponents, having defeated Georgetown, Villanova and St. John’s.
Connecticut (7-7, 3-5 BIG EAST) comes in having won seven of its last eight matches, including a 6-1 victory against Villanova last Sunday afternoon. Head coach Glenn Marshall has 20 years of experience at the University of Connecticut. Marshall is currently serving his 15th season as the Director of Tennis at UConn, and has been the head coach of both men and women’s programs since 1997.
RU swept UConn, 7-0, in the last meeting between the teams on April 19, 2011 at the Atlantic Club.
