PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 29, 2012) – Rutgers University women’s tennis will face two non-conference opponents this weekend. The Scarlet Knights will travel to New Haven, Conn., to face No. 26 Yale on Friday, March 30 at 3:30 p.m. They will then return home to face Denver University on Sunday, April 1 at 10 a.m. at the RU Tennis Complex, weather permitting.
Rutgers (8-6, 3-3 BIG EAST) is coming off BIG EAST wins over Villanova and St. John’s last week. The Scarlet Knights won all three doubles matches against the Red Storm and split the six singles matches to earn the victory. Against the Wildcats on March 22, RU dominated form start to finish to pick up a 7-0 sweep.
Yale (11-3) most recently defeated Quinnipiac, 7-0, Wednesday. Before that, the Bulldogs split a pair of matches in South Florida, defeating FIU and losing to No. 12 Miami. The team is a perfect 5-0 at home this season. Danielle Lund McNamara is in her sixth season as the head coach.
Denver (9-7) won their last match against Florida Atlantic, 5-2. Sophomore Elena Najera picked up her 12th singles victory of the season. Before coming to Rutgers, the Pioneers will take on Princeton on Friday, March 30. Jeremy Wurtzman is in his third season coaching DU.
Sunday’s match against Denver will be moved to the Atlantic Club in Manasquan, N.J., if the weather is not suitable for outdoor tennis.
