PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Rutgers men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have announced their schedules for the 2003-04 season. Rutgers will compete in eight team events during the season, while participating in five invitationals.

The Scarlet Knights will host seven meets at the Rutgers Aquatics Center, including the Sonny Werblin and Rutgers Invitationals.

After beginning the season hosting the Sonny Werblin Invitational, Rutgers will face two BIG EAST opponents. The team will host West Virginia (11/1) before heading to the road to face Connecticut (11/8). The women will face Richmond (11/14) at home before both teams host non-conference foe Yale (11/25).

The Scarlet Knights will once again compete in the highly competitive Princeton Invitational (12/5-12/7), hosted by the nationally-ranked Tigers. Last season, RU finished second behind Princeton in the combined standings.

Another addition to the 2003-04 schedule includes a trip to Coral Gables, FL, to face Miami (1/2), whose men’s and women’s teams finished 22nd and 29th respectively at last season’s NCAA Championships. The Hurricane women placed third behind second-place Rutgers at the BIG EAST Championships.

Rutgers will also face Penn State (1/31), which finished 22nd (women) and 34th (men) at the 2003 NCAA Championships.

The BIG EAST Championships will take place in Long Island, NY, Feb. 26-28. Rutgers will look to be represented at both the Men’s and Women’s NCAA Championships for the second-consecutive year. The women’s event will take place in College Station, TX, March 18-20, while the men’s event will be held in Long Island, NY, March 25-27.

The Scarlet Knight women finished the 2002-03 season 37th at the NCAA Championships. They completed the regular season with 4-3 record, sending four swimmers to the NCAA Championships. The men completed their season 5-3, sending one swimmer to the NCAA Championships. Both teams were a perfect 4-0 in the BIG EAST Conference. The women finished second at the BIG EAST Championships, while the men placed third.
