PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Scarlet Knight swimmers finished the summer season this week with two championship meets – the U.S. Open Meet in Federal Way, Wash. and the Speedo Championship in Buffalo, N.Y.
Seniors Shayna Longacre (Barto, Pa.) and Catherine Whetstone (Haven Beach, N.J.) crossed the country Monday in preparation for the U.S. Open. On opening day, Longacre finished the 200 breaststroke in 2:40.00 for a 54th -place finish. Whetstone ranked 35th in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:18.26.
Longacre returns to the pool Friday for the 100 breaststroke, while Whetstone will be swimming the 100 backstroke.
Additionally, sophomores Megan Caylor (Kenmore, Wash.) and Michaela Nilsson (Charlotte, N.C.) swam the 200 backstroke, clocking times of 2:19.16 and 2:19.83, respectively. Brianne Lindblad (Kent, Wash.) will race in today’s 100 backstroke event.
In Buffalo, N.Y., freshman Taylor Zafir (Wheaton, Ill.) kicked off the week with a 2:27.91 finish in the 200 IM and touching the wall at 1:18.26 in the 100 breaststroke. She ranked 28th in the IM and 49th in the breaststroke.
Sophomore Michelle Berman (La Mirada, Calif.) clocked in at 17:54.47 in the 1500 freestyle to grab a 24th place finish - the highest of the week for the Scarlet Knights.
Seniors Tracy Dimond (Allentown, Pa.) and Hailey Weniger (Pittsford, N.Y.) will also be competing Friday.
