Providence, R.I. – The BIG EAST Conference announced that seventeen student-athletes from the Rutgers swimming and diving squad were selected to the 2008-09 BIG EAST All-Academic team.

The following Scarlet Knights were recognized for their excellence in the pool as well as in the classroom: Michelle Berman, Jen Betz, Jessica Burnett, Kim Case, Megan Caylor, Tracy Dimond, Kirsten Fontana, Jackie Klein, Denise Letendre, Brianne Lindblad, Shayna Longacre, Michaela Nilsson, Jen Potvin, Amelia Rivera, Erin Saunders, Hailey Weniger and Catherine Whetstone. 

Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the BIG EAST’s 16 member institutions. To qualify for the honor, student-athletes must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport, earned a varsity letter and achieved a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 for the previous academic year. In addition, they must have completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester credits.
