PISCATAWAY, NJ - Senior Matt Campbell (Haddonfield, NJ) will represent the Rutgers swimming and diving team at the NCAA 2004 Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, March 25-27, in East Meadow, NY.
Campbell will swim in the 50-meter freestyle on Thursday, March 25, and the
100-meter freestyle on Saturday, March 27. He is seeded 26th in 50 free and
41st in the 100 free.
Last season, Campbell became the first male Rutgers swimmer in 10 years to reach the NCAA Championships where he competed in the same two events and finished with the 12th fastest time in the country in the 50 free.
At the BIG EAST Championships, Feb. 19-21, where the Scarlet Knights registered a fourth-place finish, Campbell set the school record in the 100 free (44.32) and anchored the school record setting 400 free relay. For his efforts at the meet, he earned all-conference honors in the 100 free, the 200 free relay, the 400 medley relay, the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay.
Campbell has also qualified for the U.S. Olympic swimming trials in Long Beach, CA, July 7-14 in the 50 free.
