  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 23, 2014) – The Rutgers swimming and diving team returns to the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center Saturday, Jan. 25 as it welcomes Fordham and Rider at 10:30 a.m. RU has two regular season meets remaining on the schedule, both of which will take place “On the Banks.”

Rutgers is coming off a two-week break, as the team last competed on Jan. 11 on the road. The squad faced its toughest competition of the season, taking on three future Big Ten opponents in Illinois, No. 24 Michigan and Northwestern, in addition to No. 25 Notre Dame.

The Scarlet Knights battled Illinois to a 150-150 tie on Jan. 10 before falling to Michigan (219.00-81.00), Northwestern (206.00-94.00) and Notre Dame (198.50-101.50) on the following day.

Sophomore Joanna Wu (Kent, Wash.) led the team over the two days of competition, securing five top-10 individual finishes, highlighted by three first-place finishes. The second-year Scarlet Knight was especially impressive against Illinois, as she picked up victories in both the 200 freestyle and 200 back, and also swam the opening leg of the 200 medley relay to help the team claim first.

Fordham comes to Piscataway following a tri-meet in Philadelphia on Jan. 19. The Rams defeated La Salle, 193-106, and fell to Richmond, 157-142, by posting six event wins on the day. Rookie Kalena Laurent led Fordham with two individual events wins in the 50 free and 200 free. Laurent added an additional victory as a member of the 400 freestyle relay team.

Rider enters the weekend after tying Saint Peter’s, 147-147, on its Senior Day on Jan. 18. Several Broncs posted first-place finishes in various results, including Heather Lonkert in both the one-meter and the three-meter, Carlee Oswald in the 500 free and O'Connor in the 100 fly. Additionally, Rider captured first place in the 400 free relay.
