  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 2, 2014) – The Rutgers swimming and diving team returns to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 4 to face off against the Bison of Bucknell University after a four-week break dating back to the squad’s last competition.

Rutgers enters the weekend with a 4-1 mark in head-to-head competitions, most recently notching its first loss of the season in the team’s last time out against Boston University (Dec. 7). The Terriers topped RU by a score of 168-132 in Boston.

Sophomore Joanna Wu (Kent, Wash.) secured three top-five finishes on the day to lead the Scarlet Knights in the individual swimming events. The second-year swimmer claimed first place in the 200 yard back, second place in the 1000 yard freestyle and third place in the 500 free.

Through the first half of the season, senior diving captain Nicole Scott (Toronto, Canada) has ensured a notable final campaign “On the Banks,” breaking two school records and capturing first place in all but two events. Scott reset the RU record in the platform dive with a final score of 295.10 points to finish first at the Frank Elm Invitational in late November and set a new standard of 342.95 in the 3-meter at RU’s quad meet against Georgetown, Seton Hall and Villanova on Nov. 8.

Bucknell comes into Saturday’s meet also following a long break, with its last competition occurring on Dec. 7 against Colgate. The Bison are 5-1 in dual meets and have clinched four-straight victories since picking up its lone loss of the season on Oct. 26 against Pitt.

The Bison are led by sophomore Emma Levendoski, who has been named the Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week three times. Levendoski has swept the backstroke races in nine straight meets dating back to last year.

Saturday’s meet is slated to being at 1 p.m. Fans can follow the action live with real-time results.
