Rutgers Swimming and Diving Edged by Boston
Wu claims three top-five finishes, Leberfinger finishes first in two events

    BOSTON (December 7, 2013) – Despite strong performances across the board, the Rutgers swimming and diving team fell to Boston University, 168-132, Saturday afternoon at the Boston University Pool.

    Sophomore Joanna Wu (Kent, Wash.) secured three top-five finishes on the day to lead the Scarlet Knights in the individual swimming events. The second-year swimmer claimed first in the 200 yard back (2:01.92), second in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:19.46) and third in the 500 free (5:05.90).

    Brittany Guinee (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) also had a notable day for RU, winning the 200 yard butterfly (2:03.83) and finishing second in the 100 yard butterfly (58.04).

    As a team, Rutgers dominated the breaststroke events, coming one-two-three in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 breaststroke. Junior Greta Leberfinger (Chatham, N.J.) would win both, followed by senior swim captain Allyson Perrotti (Branford, Conn.) and rookie Rachel Stoddard (Hillsborough, N.J.) in the 100 breast, while Stoddard and Perrotti came two-three in the 200 breast.

    Additionally, senior Mary Moser (Wyomissing, Pa.) and sophomore Morgan Pfaff (Red Lion, Pa.) each took two second-place finishes on the day. Moser was the runner-up in the 200 free (1:54.22) and the 50 free (24.27) and Pfaff was second to touch the wall in the 100 back (57.16) and the 200 I.M. (2:07.47).

    Rutgers also performed well in the relay events. In the 200 medley relay, the team of Pfaff, Leberfinger, Guinee and Moser secured first with a time of 1:47.34, while the team of sophomore Sarah Coyne (Osceola, Ind.), senior Chelsea Rolin (Saint-Lazare, QC, Canada), sophomore Sophie Newton (Leesburg, Va.) and Wu came second in the 400 yard freestyle relay (3:35.38).

    On the boards, senior diving captain Nicole Scott (Toronto, Canada) swept both events, totaling 281.02 points in the 1-meter and 286.80 in the 3-meter. Freshman Rebecca Gross (Manchester, Pa.) came second in the 1-meter with 234.52 points.

    The Scarlet Knights will take a four-week break before resuming the schedule on Jan. 10 at Illinois.
