PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 23, 2013) – Sophomore Joanna Wu (Kent, Wash.) posted strong performances in multiple events to lead the Rutgers swimming and diving team to a third-place standing following the second day of the Frank Elm Invitational.
Currently, Wagner leads the pack with 921 points, followed by Army (916.50), Rutgers (879), Columbia (812), West Chester (796.50), Drexel (673), Villanova (510), UMass (243), Saint Peter’s (155) and Boston University (86).
Wu rounded out the day with two individual top-five finishes and two relay top-five finishes. The second-year Scarlet Knight claimed first in the 100 yard backstroke, coming in at 55.22 and also added a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:51.53). The Washington native was also a member of the fourth-place 200 medley relay team that included Greta Leberfinger (Chatham, N.J.), Brittany Guinee (Berkeley Heights, N.J.), and Mary Moser (Wyomissing, Pa.) and the fourth-place 800 freestyle relay team of herself, Moser, Guinee and Morgan Pfaff (Red Lion, Pa.).
Senior Nicole Scott (Toronto, Canada) added her second second-place finish on the boards in as many days, concluding the 1-meter dive with 270.95 points. Freshman Rebecca Gross (Manchester, Pa.) also fared well in the event, garnering 248.15 points, good for fifth.
The Scarlet Knights were also well-represented in the 100 breaststroke, as Leberfinger and senior Allyson Perrotti (Branford, Conn.) finished fourth and sixth, respectively.
Additional top-five individual finishes were recorded by Pfaff, who came fifth in 400 I.M.( 4:29.91) and Moser, who claimed fourth in the 100 butterfly (56.41).
Rutgers concludes the three-day Frank Elm Invitational tomorrow. The prelims are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the 200 back in the swimming events and noon for the platform diving. Finals are slated for 5 p.m. and will open with the 1650 freestyle.
