  • PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Rutgers men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will travel to the Nassau County Aquatics Center in East Meadow, NY, from Thursday, Feb. 19, through Saturday Feb. 21, to compete in the BIG EAST Championship. Last season, the men’s team placed third, while the women’s squad was the runner-up to champion Notre Dame, which won its seventh consecutive title.

The men’s team finished the regular season 7-1 overall and 4-0 in BIG EAST dual meet competition. Senior Matt Campbell (Haddonfield, NJ) will lead the way for the Scarlet Knights. He has registered the second fastest times in the conference in the 50 free (20.01) and the 100 free (44.75) and both times put him in the top 10 nationally as well. RU will also look to seniors Nathan Ilnicki (Crencent, PA), Bill Dennis (West Long Branch, NJ), Bobby Binz (Woodbury, NJ) and Jared Bench (West Babylon, NY), juniors Ivan Morse (Pleasanton, CA) and Josh Van Norman (San Diego, CA), and sophomores Ryan Campbell (Haddonfield, NJ) and Tyler Clark (Grenada Hills, CA) to contribute valuable points. Last season, the team set nine school records during the three-day event.

Sophomore All-American Kelly Harrigan (Bristol, CT) will lead the Scarlet Knight women, who finished the regular season 8-1 overall and 5-0 in the BIG EAST, into competition. She owns the top times in the conference this season in the 200 free (1:49.13), 500 free (4:50.04), 100 back (59.56) and 200 back (1:56.78). Senior Casmera Wick (Longmont, CO) rebounded from a slow start this season to post some excellent times and she will be looking to improve upon her record-setting times from a year ago. Other RU swimmers who will be looked upon to lead the team are senior Samantha Caetano (Alameda, CA), junior Kelly Roche (Redding, CA) and freshman Sarah Gault (Chateauguay, Quebec). At last season’s conference meet, the team broke 13 school records and won five events.
