PISCATAWAY, NJ - On the strength of several 1-2-3 finishes, the Rutgers men’s swimming and diving team (7-0, 4-0 BIG EAST) defeated Columbia 129-108 in its final home meet of the season on Friday, Jan. 23.
Senior Matt Campbell (Haddonfield, NJ) led the way for the Scarlet Knights once again with first-place finishes in the 50 free (20.01), where he has yet to lose this season, and the 100 free (44.84). In both events he led a pair of teammates to a sweep of the first three places. In the 50 free, sophomore Derek Kwok (Sayreville, NJ) came in second with a 21.54 and sophomore Ryan Campbell (Haddonfield, NJ) registered a third-place finish in 21.61. Junior Ivan Morse (Pleasanton, CA) came in second in the 100 free (45.65), while Kwok finished in third (46.82).
Senior Jared Bench (West Babylon, NY) was victorious in the 1-meter dive (301.50) and led a trio of divers to a sweep of the first three places in 3-meter dive with a score of 318.45. Sophomore Olivier Giron (Fairfax, VA) followed in second place (244.70), while freshman Robert Carlisle (Linwood, NJ) earned a third-place finish with a 235.05.
The Scarlet Knights had several other first-place finishes, including sophomore Tyler Clark (Grenada Hills, CA) in the 200 fly (1:52.27), junior Bill Dennis (West Long Branch, NJ) in the 200 breast (2:07.88) and sophomore Jamie Miller (Hamburg, NY) in the 1650 free (16:05.94).
The men and women will head to University Park, PA, on Saturday, Jan. 31, to face Penn State in a non-conference showdown at 1:00 p.m. RESULTS
