Rutgers Moves to Fourth After Day Three at the BIG EAST Championships

  • INDIANAPOLIS(March 2, 2013) – The Rutgers swimming and diving team moves up to fourth place after day three of action at the BIG EAST Championships at Iupui Natatorium in Indianapolis. The Scarlet Knights finished day three of competition with 281.5 points, sitting just a few points behind Pittsburgh, who has 298.

    The Scarlet Knights 400 medley relay team comprised of Joanna Wu (Kent, Wash.), Mary Moser (Wyomissing, Pa.), Brittany Guinee (Berkeley Heights, N.J), and Greta Leberfinger (Chatham, N.J.), notched a third place finish (3:40.52) while also setting a new Rutgers swimming and diving record.

    Senior Taylor Zafir (Wheaton, Ill.) and freshman teammate Morgan Pfaff (Red Lion, Pa.) advanced to the finals of the 400 individual medley and grabbed sixth (4:18.90) and seventh (4:20.76) place finishes respectively.

    Guinee also advanced to the finals in the 100 butterfly event, and raked in points for RU with a 54.86 fifth place touch.

    Moser continued the successful trend for the Scarlet Knights as she touched in at 1:49.04 in the 200 freestyle, good for the five-spot. Also representing RU was freshman Sarah Coyne (Osceola, Ind.) who came in behind Wu at 1:52.13.

    Leberfinger was one of three Scarlet Knights to compete in the finals of the 100 breaststroke, as she touched in seventh with a time of 1:02.14. Allyson Perrotti (Branford, Conn.) and Victoria Maqueda (Los Alamos, N.M.) finished with times of 1:02.61 and 1:03.48 to bring in points for RU.

    Wu raced for a fourth place finish in the 100 backstroke as she touched the wall at 54.05, while teammate Pfaff finished the race at 57.45.
