Coming off of last-weekend competition, the Rutgers swimming and diving team will host Fordham, Rider and Yale on Saturday, Jan. 26 at RU Aquatic Center. The meet is slated to begin at 10:30. The Yale team will bring just their men’s team for competition.
“"I would like to carry the momentum of our swimming and diving we had last weekend into this weekend's competition against Fordham and Rider," said head coach Phil Spiniello.
Last weekend, RU hosted Richmond and Central Connecticut State on Friday, and met James Madison in the water on Saturday. The Scarlet Knights defeated both teams on Friday, finishing with a 164-135 win over Richmond, and a 219-80 victory over Central Connecticut State. Saturday’s competition was stiffer, as the Dukes defeated RU, 165-135, in the end, handing the Scarlet Knights their first loss of the season.
After a big weekend for the Scarlet Knights, freshman Joanna Wu (Kent, Wash.) was named BIG EAST Athlete of the Week in women’s swimming and diving as announced by the conference office Tuesday.
Wu led the Scarlet Knights with three top individual finishes as RU downed Richmond (164-135) and Central Connecticut State (219-80) at RU Aquatic Center on Friday. She took home the top spots in the 100 and 200 backstroke events with times of 55.61 and 2:01.25, respectively. Wu’s 100 backstroke time was her personal best on the season. She also grabbed the first place finish in the 500 freestyle with a 5:00.77 touch and swam the first leg of the 200 medley relay in 26.10 seconds to kick off the winning squad’s 1:45.30 finish.
