BUFFALO, N.Y. (March 9, 2012) – In day one of the Zone A Diving Championships, Rutgers sophomore diver Nicole Scott (Toronto, ON, Canada) missed out on the finals of the women’s one-meter board by .05 of a point (228.40), narrowly edged by Virginia’s Laura Gartrell (228.45) on Friday afternoon at Alumni Arena Natatorium on the campus of the University of Buffalo.
Scott finished in 19th out of 44 elite divers competing in the event, with the top-18 moving on to the finals for a chance to compete in the NCAA Diving Championships.
Junior Katie Kearney (Mahwah, N.J.) placed in 29th with 213.35 points, while sophomore Valentina Gordon (Metuchen, N.J.) and freshman Nicole Honey (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) followed with 194.40 and 185.60, respectively.
Action continues tomorrow at the championships with the three-meter board preliminaries and finals. Sunday will conclude zones with the platform event.
