RICHMOND, Va. (January 21, 2012) – Rutgers swimming and diving dropped its second-straight meet, falling to Richmond 163-135 on Saturday afternoon at Robins Center Natatorium. The Scarlet Knights (7-2, 4-0) excelled on the boards, finishing in the first-three spots on the one-meter event and taking three of the top-four spots in the three-meter event.
Senior Jacquelyn Ward (Berlin, N.J.) notched gold in the 500 freestyle (5:02.03) and the 200 butterfly (2:04.76), while classmate Trisha Averill (Renton, Wash.) added a top-finish in the 200 breaststroke, clocking in at 2:20.55. Emile Kaufman (Bothell, Wash.) followed in second with a time of 2:23.27. Averill and Kaufman added a second and third finish, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke.
Brianne Lindblad (Kent, Wash.) took second in both the 100 (57.73) and the 200 (2:08.16) backstroke. Courtney Sepich (Ocean City, N.J.) and Lindsay Gibson-Brokop (Edmonton, AB, Canada) followed in third and fourth in the 200 back.
Mary Moser (Wyomissing, Pa.) touched the wall third in a pair of short distance freestyle events. She swam the 100 free in the 52.77 and the 50 free in 24.43.
In diving action, Katie Kearney (Mahwah, N.J.) recorded a top-finish on the one-meter board, tallying 264.70 points, followed by Nicole Scott (Toronto, ON, Canada) (263.55) and Nicole Honey (New Hyde Park, N.Y.)(245.02). In the three-meter event, Scott’s 287.32 points were good for first, while Honey earned four points (260.55) and Valentina Gordon (Metuchen, N.J.) chipped in two points with a total of 226.42
Rutgers returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 28 for its final meet of the regular season and its senior day. The meet is set for 10 a.m.
