Rutgers Swimming and Diving Resume Action Against Bucknell
Undefeated Scarlet Knights come off of month long break

  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 13, 2012) – The Rutgers swimming and diving team will come off of a month long break and put its undefeated season on the line when it travels to Bucknell on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 1 p.m. RU enters into Kinney Natatorium with a 6-0 overall mark and a 4-0 record in conference action.

    “This meet is a great way to open up the second half of the season,” head coach Phil Spiniello said. “We have our work cut out for us this weekend. Bucknell is a very good team and we will need to rise to the challenge.”

    The Scarlet Knights concluded the first semester with a second-place finish at the Big Al Open, racking up 638 points and falling to only the host Princeton (1103.5). Patrisha Averill (Renton, Wash.) set a new school record in the 200 breaststroke, taking second place with a time of 2:15.23. Jacquelyn Ward (Berlin, N.J.) snagged a gold in the 400 IM, touching the wall at 4:20.04.

    In diving action, Rutgers took the top-three spots in the platform event – Nicole Scott (Toronto, ON, Canada) (235.65), Nicole Honey (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) (195.85) and Valentina Gordon (Metuchen, N.J.) (192.85). Scott added a pair of second place finishes in the three meter board (295.40) and the one meter board (262.25).

    The Bison are coming off a 165-133 loss to Colgate on Wednesday to move to 3-3 on the season and will be on the road against Army on Saturday. Bucknell won seven of 16 events against the Raiders, including two victories apiece for Emily Norton (100 and 200 breast), Emily Wright (50 and 100 free) and diver Katie Hetherington (one meter and three meter boards).
