PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Rutgers men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams held their annual Black vs. Red intrasquad meet on Saturday, Oct. 11, inside the Sonny Werblin Aquatics Center.
For the men, junior Ivan Morse (Pleasanton, CA) was a triple winner, taking the 200 free (1:42.76) and the 100 free (46:51), while swimming anchor on the 400 free relay (3:09.81). Other members of the 400 free relay were senior Bobby Binz (Woodbury, NJ), sophomore Levan Beridze (Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia) and senior Sean Smith (Oklahoma City, OK), who won two other events. In addition to 400 free relay, Smith took the 200 fly (155.66) and the 1000 free (9:44.19). In diving, freshman Jared Bench was three points off of an NCAA zone qualification in the one-meter diving competition with a score of 287.50, while sophomore Jonathan Hupp (Mobile, AL) was 13 points off the NCAA zone qualification in the three-meter diving competition with a score of 297.20.
On the women’s side, sophomore All-American Kelly Harrigan (Bristol, CT) was a triple winner. She placed first in the 200 back (2:02.96), the 100 back (56:46) and the 200 free (1:51.16). Freshman Sarah Gault (Chateauguay, Quebec) began her career at Rutgers with two victories at the meet. She took the 100 breast (1:05.81) and the 200 breast (2:25.67).
The team will host an alumni meet next Saturday, Oct. 18, before opening the season hosting the Sonny Werblin Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24-25.
