David McCune is in his 11th season as the Head Football Athletic Trainer at Rutgers after serving four seasons (1997-2000) as the Coordinator of Athletic Training and Football Athletic Trainer at the University of Miami. He was appointed Director of Athletic Training Services at Rutgers University in 2007.
McCune, a Virginia native, graduated from James Madison in 1986, and earned his Master’s Degree from Southwest Missouri State in 1988. He began his career as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Missouri State in 1989, where he worked for one year before being named Head Athletic Trainer at the University of Miami’s HealthSouth Sports Medicine Clinic (1989-1993).
From 1993-1995, he was Director of Sports Medicine for the HealthSouth Sports Medicine Clinic. He then returned to his alma mater, James Madison, as the Athletic Trainer for Men’s Basketball, where he served from 1995-1997 before re-joining the Miami program.
David resides in Piscataway with his two sons, Devon and Braden.
