PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers women’s outdoor track and field team will send three Scarlet Knights to the NCAA East Regional in Lexington, Kentucky next week. Vying for a spot at the NCAA Outdoor championships will be junior Bria Saunders in the 200m, senior Katherine Johnston in the javelin and sophomore Rhonda Rogombe in the high jump.
Saunders is a regional qualifier in the 200m for the second-straight season. This spring she was a finalist in the event at the Big Ten Championships where she finished in seventh with a PR of 23.36. During the season, the Parsippany, New Jersey product captured 200m titles at the Metropolitan Championships, as well at the Georgia Tech and USF Invitational.
Johnston was the runner-up in the javelin at the Big Ten Championships where she captured the silver medal with a distance of 49.10m (161’ 1”). The Moorestown, New Jersey native’s throw at the conference championships currently places her 19th in the East Region. During the 2017 outdoor campaign, Johnston was the Metropolitan Championship and Georgia Tech Invitational champion.
Rogombe makes her first regional appearance. Last weekend at the Big Ten Championships, she placed seventh in the high jump at a height of 1.70m (5’ 7”). The Charlestown, West Virginia resident won the Metropolitan Championship title in the event and was the runner-up at the Colonial Relays earlier this season where cleared the bar at 1.75m (5’ 8.75”).
The NCAA East Regional will be hosted by the University of Kentucky on May 25-27.
