USF Bulls Invitational Results

TAMPA, Fla.
– The Rutgers women’s track and field team opened up the 2017 outdoor season with 17 top 10 performances at the USF Bulls Invitational this weekend. Junior Bria Saunders led the way in taking home the 200m title while runner-up performances were captured by sophomore Phyllis Gordon in the 400m, fifth-year senior Paige Senatore in 1500m and senior Katherine Johnston in the javelin.

"The ladies produced some very good season opening performances," said head coach James Robinson. "I think when you are opening a new season of competition, it's always great when you see multiple athletes establish personal bests and ECAC qualifiers."

Saunders was responsible for a pair of RU’s top 10 results including her first place victory in the 200m in 23.89. The Parsippany, New Jersey native also took fourth place in the 100m in 11.99.

Gordon led a trio of Scarlet Knights crossing the finish line in the top 10 in the 400m. Gordon was the runner-up in the event in a time of 56.52. Senior Sarah Robbie set a new PR of 57.46 in taking fifth, as did sophomore Jenna Sobieski, who logged a new personal best in 58.66 for ninth place.

Other notable finishes for the Scarlet Knights on the track included a fifth place showing for Alexandra Juzwiak with a new PR of 18:15.19 in the 5000m, as well as a new personal benchmark for junior Oksana Sokolova in the 200m with a time of 25.34 in her 10th place performance. Freshman Emma Bergman made her Rutgers outdoor debut taking ninth in the 800m in 2:22.27.

Additionally, both the 4x100m team of Nabiya Garrett, Imani Beauliere, Saunders and Garrett and 4x400m relay squad of junior Sabrina Alexander, Sobieski, Garrett and Robbie landed in fifth place.

In addition to RU’s javelin results, Rutgers also posted several other noteworthy results in the field events. In addition to race to a 10th place finish in the 200m, Sokolova captured fifth in the long jump. Her distance of 5.41m (17’ 9”) was her best outdoor leap to date. Sophomore Cameron Daniels registered a new PR in the shot put reaching 12.97m (42’ 6.75”) to take sixth. Classmate Halia Rosemond placed ninth in the discus at 41.07m (143’ 8”), while freshman Selena Thorne tied for the ninth position in the high jump at a height of 1.55m (5’ 1”).
