TAMPA, Fla. – The Rutgers women’s track and field team opened up the 2017 outdoor season with 17 top 10 performances at the USF Bulls Invitational this weekend. Junior Bria Saunders led the way in taking home the 200m title while runner-up performances were captured by sophomore Phyllis Gordon in the 400m, fifth-year senior Paige Senatore in 1500m and senior Katherine Johnston in the javelin.
"The ladies produced some very good season opening performances," said head coach James Robinson. "I think when you are opening a new season of competition, it's always great when you see multiple athletes establish personal bests and ECAC qualifiers."

Other notable finishes for the Scarlet Knights on the track included a fifth place showing for Alexandra Juzwiak with a new PR of 18:15.19 in the 5000m, as well as a new personal benchmark for junior Oksana Sokolova in the 200m with a time of 25.34 in her 10th place performance. Freshman Emma Bergman made her Rutgers outdoor debut taking ninth in the 800m in 2:22.27.
In addition to RU’s javelin results, Rutgers also posted several other noteworthy results in the field events. In addition to race to a 10th place finish in the 200m, Sokolova captured fifth in the long jump. Her distance of 5.41m (17’ 9”) was her best outdoor leap to date.
