PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women’s soccer Incoming freshman Amirah Ali has received an invitation to participate in the U.S. Soccer Under-20 Women’s National Team training camp from May 18-26 in Carson, California. Attending the camp is the first step for Ali in potentially earning a spot on the U-20 National Team.
Ali has previous experience on the national level, competing with the U.S Women’s National U-19 Team as well as participating in U-14, U-18 and U-19 camps. The Voorhees, New Jersey, native finished her stellar career at Eastern Regional High School as a three-time All-American and was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National High School Player of the Year.
Ali was a four-year letterwinner at Eastern Regional, where she became a four-time regional All-American, four-time all-South Jersey selection, four-time all-conference selection and 2015 Courier Post and Philadelphia Inquirer Player of the Year. During her time at Eastern Regional, Ali secured school records with 99 career goals and 36 single-season scores.
Twenty-six players – a mixture of 11 collegiate players with the rest youth club players – have been called into the U-20 camp. The squad will compete against Japan’s U-20 team twice, on Monday, May 22 (5 p.m. PT) and Wednesday, May 24 (5 p.m. PT) at the U.S. Soccer NTC at StubHub Center in Carson, California.
Rising junior Casey Murphy previously competed on the U-20 team when the program competed at the U-20 FIFA World Cup in Papua New Guinea from Nov. 13-Dec. 3, 2016. Murphy started all six matches for fourth-place Team USA and boasted the most saves (21) and highest save ration (77.8) among all goalkeepers at the tournament.
