PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Senior Thomas Carr was recognized as one of the Big Ten’s men’s outdoor track and field Sportsmanship Award recipients, announced this week by the conference.
The Big Ten Conference office recognizes student-athletes from each team as Sportsmanship Award Honorees. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Carr finished third in the javelin at the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend, as the Voorhees, New Jersey, native recorded a throw of 72.41m (237' 6") to secure the bronze medal.
A 2015 Honorable Mention All-American in the javelin, Carr has continued to be one of the top scorers for the men’s track and field team after sitting out the 2016 outdoor season while rehabbing from elbow surgery. This season, Carr owns the third-best distance in the Big Ten and 15th-overall mark nationally. Carr has finished second in four meets this outdoor season, with his throw of 237’ 6” at the Big Ten Championships a personal record.
