Last weekend was a huge weekend for former Scarlet Knights in the NFL, as four Rutgers standouts advanced to the conference championship games behind outstanding performances from RU players.
Saturday night in New England was a “Big Day for Rutgers” according to Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. Not one, not two, but all three active Scarlet Knights on New England had an interception, with Devin McCourty, Logan Ryan and Duron Harmon all recording a pick in the 34-16 win over the Houston Texans. They became the first trio from the same school to each have an interception in the same playoff game since 1970. New England advances to the AFC Championship game, where the trio will face the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jonathan Freeny is also on the Patriots roster, on injured reserve.
“It felt good,” Ryan said postgame. “It was my first postseason career interception so it was big and I knew once Dev got one, I would get one and Duron always closes it out. It was a big day for Rutgers, just like we planned. … I mean on the whole sideline I told them, ‘I'm going to get one, and I'm going to finish it off. I can't let Logan and Dev get one and not me get one, so I told them I'd get one and it happened."
