PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers Mandy Craig (Manassas, Va.) was named to the BIG EAST Softball Second Team, the conference announced. It marked the third-straight Scarlet Knight selected to the All-BIG EAST team under head coach Jay Nelson.
Craig, who started all of RU’s 56 games at first base, batted .314 for the season with a team-high 50 hits and 26 runs batted in. She also had five doubles and tied for the team lead with four home runs.
The sophomore raised her level of play during BIG EAST action, leading the Scarlet Knights with 24 hits and ranking second with a .343 batting average. She also had a pair of doubles, one home run and nine RBI.
Craig became the third consecutive Scarlet Knight to earn an All-BIG EAST selection as senior Sarah Kalka (Moreno Valley, Calif.) was a first team selection in 2007 and classmate Amanda Heller (Belle Mead, N.J.) was a second team choice following the 2008 campaign.
Rutgers finished 2009 with a 23-33 overall record and a 6-18 mark in conference play.
