The BIG EAST doubleheader was originally scheduled fro Friday, May 2, but rain forced the postponement to today.

Vargas hit a solo shot over the right center fence in the fourth inning for her eighth home run of the year, making the score 2-1. In the sixth inning, Vargas hit a double down the left line and scored the second run for the Scarlet Knights off a single by Brittney Neer (Tallahassee, FL). Rutgers mustered up one more run in the seventh inning when Meaghan Asselta (Ramsey, NJ) scored on a hit from Nikki Childress (Roanoke, VA).

Andria Koehler (Sellersville, PA) started the first game, pitching 3.0 innings and picking up the loss to fall to 12-8. Koehler allowed five runs on six hits and two walks, striking out two. Christina Gillman (Valencia, CA) threw for the last three innings, allowing one run on three hits with two strikes.

In the second game of the day, Brielle Cosentino (Carlstadt, NJ) pitched 4.2 innings, allowing eight hits and three earned runs. Koehler relieved her, allowing five hits and four earned runs in 0.2 innings. Gillman threw the last 0.2 innings, giving up no hits, runs or walks in two batters faced.

The only run scored in the first four innings was plated in the first inning by Jen Jacoby (Agoura Hills, CA), batted in by Vargas. SU had a four–run fifth inning, including two home runs, to take the lead, 4-1. Syracuse had a three-run sixth inning to make the final score to 7-1.
