  • PROVIDENCE, RI – The Rutgers University softball team (0-26, 0-4 BIG EAST) fell in its doubleheader against BIG EAST opponent, Providence College by scores of 1-0 and 6-0 on Saturday, April 9, at Raymond Field in Providence, RI.

Game one proved to be a tight contest, as both teams were held scoreless entering the sixth inning. Senior Lindsay Creaney (Atco, NJ) led the Scarlet Knight charge with an outstanding pitching performance, going six innings, allowing just five hits on two strikeouts, but Rutgers was unable seal the victory. Providence scored the game’s only run in the sixth, when Rachel Bartholomew doubled to plate Kalena Petersen from second.

The Scarlet Knights fell behind early in game two with the Friars taking a 6-0 lead after the third inning. Senior Jenny Card (Miami, FL) and sophomore Maggie Geraldi (Russell, IL) hit back-to-back singles to provide RU with a scoring opportunity in the fourth, before the inning was cut short on a ground ball to third base.

Rutgers will play the final doubleheader of its three-opponent road trip on Sunday, April 10, against the Connecticut Huskies.
