PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers senior Megan Antonucci (Warrington, PA) earned BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week honors, it was announced today by the league office.
Antonucci went 10-for-20 (.500) in seven games at the Speedline Invitational Tournament in Clearwater, FL, from Thursday, March 4, through Sunday, March 7, and raised her average from .263 to .351 for the season.
The first baseman began the tournament with a bang by going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in the opening-day 6-1 win over Jacksonville. She scored the go-ahead run in the 2-1 victory over Mercer after hitting a two-out double to the right field gap to get into scoring position. In addition to her 10 hits, Antonucci scored four runs, stole a base and made 56 put outs at first base, where she started every game.
For the season, she has the second highest average on the team and leads the Scarlet Knights with seven runs scored, 17 total bases, 13 hits and one home run.
Rutgers (6-7) finished the Speedline Invitational 3-4, with victories over Jacksonville, Coastal Carolina and Mercer. The team returns to action on Wednesday, March 17, when it travels to Maryland for a double header at 2:00 p.m.
