PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 17, 2014) – The Rutgers softball team has exciting promotions lined up for the Scarlet Knights’ remaining American Athletic Conference series at the RU Softball Complex.
In addition to special giveaways, there will also be plenty of activities for children to take part in, including the Foul Ball Rescue Squad. For every foul ball that is hit throughout games, the child that returns it will receive a free piece of candy or block R magnet.
Memphis | April 18-19
The Scarlet Knights’ (19-15, 3-6 American) series with Memphis this weekend kicks off on April 18 at noon and marks the program’s annual NFCA Strikeout Cancer Weekend. While the team will not be accepting donations, fans will still be able to fill out a commemorative paper softball in honor of someone they know who has been affected by cancer. The softballs will be posted along the RU dugout throughout the weekend series.
RU’s series finale with Memphis at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 19 will serve as a joint tailgate with the Rutgers baseball team as it faces Cincinnati at 1 p.m. at Bainton Field. The tailgate begins at 12:30 pm. and will offer the first 100 fans in attendance from baseball and the first 100 fans in attendance from softball the choice of Thomas Sweet Ice Cream or a Chick Fil A lunch.
The first 250 Rutgers softball fans to arrive at the RU Softball Complex on Saturday will receive a Rutgers Softball headband.
UConn | April 26-27
Rutgers welcomes UConn to Piscataway from April 26-27 in the team’s final American Athletic Conference series of the season. The first game of the April 26 doubleheader begins at noon and is marked as the program’s “Blackout Game.” The first 200 fans in attendance will receive a blackout t-shirt.
In between contests of the doubleheader, Rutgers softball will celebrate “Senior Day.” The program will honor seniors Alexis Durando (Oakland, N.J.), Loren Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Emma Woo (Santa Monica, Calif.).

Since starting the Strikeout Cancer initiative over ten years ago, NFCA membership teams have raised tens of thousands of dollars to support the fight against cancer. In addition to fundraised dollars, this initiative has provided a platform to raise awareness for breast cancer as well as support for women's cancer research.
