    Rutgers Quick Hits

RU had its April 14 game at Monmouth canceled due to inclement weather. Overall, the Scarlet Knights have had nine games canceled due to inclement weather, including five contests at the RU Softball Complex.

Rutgers (19-15, 3-6 American) dropped two of three games at Temple last weekend in Ambler, Pa., taking the series-opener before dropping the final two games of the three-game set.

Junior center fielder Jackie Bates (Lincroft, N.J.) leads the American Athletic Conference with a .421 batting average and is second with a .682 slugging percentage and 13 doubles. Bates’ 0.38 doubles averaged per game is the 11th-best mark in the country (as of April 14). Her 30 RBIs in 34 games is tied for third in the league and five shy of tying her total from 2013, while her 45 hits is two shy of tying her total from all of last season (47). Bates rides a seven-game hitting streak into the week.

Junior Alyssa Landrith (Vacaville, Calif.) enters the week 12-6 on the season after tossing a two-hit shutout of the Owls in a 2-0 RU victory (April 12). She moved into second place on RU’s all-time list with nine strikeouts in the outing, passing Kelley Gallagher (1985-88). Landrith has struck out 445 batters in two-plus years “On the Banks.”

The Scarlet Knights’ .295 batting average, .416 slugging percentage and .368 on-base percentage are the second-best marks in the last 10 years.
