Junior center fielder Jackie Bates (Lincroft, N.J.), who was named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll Monday for the second-straight week, leads the league with a .421 batting average and is second with a .682 slugging percentage and 13 doubles.
Bates’ 0.45 doubles averaged per game is the 11th-best mark in the country (as of April 14). Bates rides a seven-game hitting streak into the week.
Junior Alyssa Landrith (Vacaville, Calif.) enters the week 12-6 on the season after tossing a two-hit shutout of the Owls in a 2-0 RU victory (April 12). She moved into second place on RU’s all-time list with nine strikeouts in the outing, passing Kelley Gallagher (1985-88). Landrith has struck out 445 batters in two-plus years “On the Banks.”
Sophomore Stephanie Huang (Paramus, N.J.) had a nine-game hitting streak snapped at Temple, which tied classmate Melanie Slowinski (Severn, Md.) for the second-best mark on the team this season. Huang recorded multi-hit performances in two of the nine games and is third on the team with a .337 batting average.
The Scarlet Knights’ .295 batting average, .416 slugging percentage and .368 on-base percentage are the second-best marks in the last 10 years.
Monmouth’s (10-15) meeting with RU marks the Hawks’ first appearance on their home field this year, as their first home series took place at Farleigh Dickenson’s Softball Field in Hackensack, N.J.
The Hawks’ offense is led by junior infielder Vanessa Cardoza and sophomore catcher Jill Freese. Cardoza leads the team in batting average (.341), hits (30) and runs (16). Freese is also hitting well with a .328 batting average, and leads the team in homeruns (3), RBIs (17), doubles (4), and slugging percentage (.541).
