PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 7, 2014) – Rutgers softball junior Jackie Bates (Lincroft, N.J.) was selected to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll, the league office announced Monday. Bates hit .579 (11-for-19) in six games for the Scarlet Knights, leading the team with a 1.000 slugging percentage in a 4-2 week.
Bates posted a trio of three-hit games last week for Rutgers, ending with a 3-for-4 performance in the 4-1 win against UCF (April 6). In that game, Bates launched her fourth home run of the season and hit her team-leading 13th double of the year, recording three RBIs in the process. Through 29 games, Bates has recorded a team-leading 28 RBIs and is just seven shy of tying her 2013 total.
The center fielder went a combined 6-for-8 with three doubles and three RBIs to begin the week, tallying a pair of 3-for-4 games in the 12-5 win against Seton Hall (April 1) and in the 1-0 win at Villanova (April 3). In the win against the Pirates, Bates began and concluded the seventh inning with a double, knocking in two of RU’s seven runs in the frame.
Rutgers returns to the RU Softball Complex to cap a home-and-home season series with in-state foe Seton Hall on Wednesday, April 9 at 4 p.m.
