PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 26, 2014) – The Rutgers softball team returns to the friendly confines of the RU Softball Complex this weekend, welcoming American Athletic Conference opponent USF from March 29-30. RU's Saturday doubleheader against USF has been moved to 11 a.m. due to impending inclement weather.
The No. 25 Bulls (ESPN.com/USA Softball) roll into their second conference series with the Scarlet Knights on a seven-game winning streak following a three-game sweep of UConn to open AAC play.
The Bulls are second in the conference with a .310 team batting average, as 11 players are hitting over .300 through 37 games. Kristen Wyckoff boasts the best average on the team, hitting .412, while Kourtney Salvarola has been a force from the plate for USF, starting all 37 games this season.
Salvarola leads USF with 24 RBIs, 11 home runs and a .763 slugging percentage, accumulating 71 total bases.
From the circle Sara Nevins has been virtually unhittable, holding opponents to a .133 batting average to go with her 1.26 ERA. She is 17-4 and leads the conference with 173 strikeouts.
USF took the season series, 2-1, last season in Tampa, Fla., but the Scarlet Knights won their first game against the Bulls in 11 tries dating back to 2006.
The Scarlet Knights were victorious in the second game, snapping the Bulls’ 17-game winning streak. RU finished with a 3-2 win, rallying for two runs in the top of the seventh to seal the victory.
