  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 21, 2014) – The Rutgers softball team rides a six-game winning streak into its conference-opening weekend vs. Louisville Friday in Louisville, Ky. RU (11-7) won all five of its game at the Michelle Smith Spring Break Tournament (March 14-16) before beating UMass, 10-4, on Sunday, March 16.

The Scarlet Knights play tomorrow at noon against the Cardinals at Ulmer Stadium in a doubleheader, closing the series on Sunday, March 23 at noon.

Sunday's game will be televised live locally on WHAS11.2(TWC 432, Comcast 207). Brian U'Sellis will carry play-by-play duties while Patty Norton will provide color commentary.

The Scarlet Knights had two players – juniors Alyssa Landrith (Vacaville, Calif.)  and Chandler Howard (Wilmington, Del.) – make the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll after successful weekends in Clearwater, Fla. Howard hit .455 (10-for-22) with four doubles and a home run to lead RU at the plate, while Landrith pitched lights out. The Vacaville HS (Calif.) product went 3-0 with a 1.67 ERA and 33 strikeouts, tossing three complete games to extend her consecutive complete-games streak to eight.

The Scarlet Knights’ six-game winning streak entering the weekend is their best since last season, when the squad won six-straight games also on its spring break trip from March 15-20.

Senior right fielder Loren Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) leads the squad from the plate with a .385 batting average. With and 8-for-8 stolen bases clip this season, Williams is now 51-for-58 in her career and is one steal shy of tying for third place on RU’s all-time list with Carla Camino (1990-93).

    Scouting Louisville

The Cardinals, the coaches’ preseason favorite to win the American Athletic Conference, enter the matchup at 16-10 overall and ride a two-game winning streak into the series. UofL edged Western Kentucky, 7-4 and 3-0, on Wednesday, March 19 in doubleheader action to snap a three-game skid.

Louisville is led at the plate by Katie Keller, who owns a .416 batting average and .623 slugging percentage this season. She leads the team with nine doubles and is third on the team with 15 RBIs.

Mryssa Becker leads the Cardinals from the circle with a 5-1 record and 1.66 ERA in 54.2 IP.

The two programs have not faced since the 2012 season, as RU last beat the Cardinals on April 13, 2010, by a 3-1 margin.
