  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 17 , 2014) – Rutgers softball juniors Chandler Howard (Wilmington, Del.) and Alyssa Landrith (Vacaville, Calif.) were both named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll, the league announced Monday.

The duo guided the Scarlet Knights (11-7) to a 6-0 weekend, including a perfect 5-0 mark at the Michelle Smith Spring Break Tournament and a 10-4 win over UMass (March 17).

The left-handed Landrith went 3-0 with a 1.67 ERA over the weekend, striking out 33 batters and fanning a career-high 14 in her win over Quinnipiac (March 16). The Vacaville HS (Calif.) product improved her record to 5-4, tossing three more complete games to bump her season total to eight.

All eight of Landrith’s starts this season have resulted in complete games, while her two double-digit strikeout efforts in Clearwater, Fla., improved her overall tally to four on the year. She notched three double-digit strikeout efforts all of last season.

Howard led the Scarlet Knights at the plate, as the left fielder hit .455 (10-for-22) with four doubles and a home run and scored seven runs and knocked in five. She tallied 17 total bases and slugged .773 in six contests, posting four multi-hit games in the process.

The Concord HS (Del.) product saved her best for last in RU’s final day of action Sunday, going a combined 5-for-9 (.555) with a home run, two doubles, four runs and two RBIs against Quinnipiac and UMass (March 16).

The Scarlet Knights face the Dutch National Team at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18 in an exhibition match before heading into their American Athletic Conference opening weekend at Louisville, which was picked by league coaches to win the conference. RU has not faced the Cardinals since the 2012 season.
