PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 2, 2013) – The Rutgers softball team gets back on the road Wednesday, April 3, for a midweek doubleheader against Hofstra in Hempstead, N.Y. The Scarlet Knights (18-12) enter the doubleheader as winners of 10 out of their last 13 games after posting a 4-1 record last week against Hartford and BIG EAST foe, Connecticut.

Opening pitch for the first game is set for 4 p.m. at the Hofstra Softball Stadium, with the second game scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. 88.7 FM WRHU will carry a live radio broadcast of both contests.

Through 30 games, RU is off to its best start since the 2003 season, when the squad began the year 17-13. Rutgers took two of three from UConn last weekend at the RU Softball Complex to complete its first series win over the Huskies in 15 years. Freshman pitcher Dresden Maddox (Kennesaw, Ga.) and sophomore lefty Alyssa Landrith (Vacaville, Calif.) each collected victories in the series.

Over the past five games, RU is 4-1 and is outscoring its opponents, 28-6. Only four of the six runs scored against the Scarlet Knights in that span were earned. Offensively, RU is playing some of its best softball of the season, recording at least nine hits in four of the past five games, and twice eclipsing the double-digit mark.

Continuing that pace against a hot Hofstra team will be a tough task, as the Pride surrender only 5.8 hits per game and boast a team ERA of 2.52. The Pride have dropped just one game in their last 16 contests, ripping off a 13-game winning streak in that span.

Hofstra (18-9) has the 35th-best team batting average in the country (.311), with seven of its nine starters hitting at least .300 this season.

Caryn Bailey leads the Pride with a .376 batting average and is second with a .682 slugging percentage in 27 games played. Tessa Ziemba boasts a .700 slugging percentage, as the senior has recorded nine home runs and six doubles this season.

In the circle, Olivia Galati leads the Pride with a 17-8 record and 2.13 ERA. Her wins total is good for a tie for 10th nationally, as she is also sixth in the country with 178 strikeouts
