PROVIDENCE, R.I. (May 6, 2012) – The Rutgers softball team picked up its third-straight BIG EAST Championship berth, – a feat RU had yet to accomplish since joining the BIG EAST in 1996 – as announced by the conference office following the conclusion of league play on Sunday.

The Scarlet Knights (26-27, 9-13 BIG EAST) earned the No. 7 seed and will face the No. 2 seed and host in Notre Dame (36-13, 16-3 BIG EAST) on Thursday, May 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Melissa Cook Stadium. 

RU split with the Fighting Irish on April 11; falling 4-1 in game one and taking a 7-6 win in the Scarlet Knights only extra inning contest of the season in game two.

The winner of Thursday’s contest will take on the winner of No. 3 Syracuse and No. 6 St. John’s at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 11.
